Denver7 reports that, upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with injuries to their arm and transported them to a nearby hospital. Police then located the bear responsible for the attack and shot it.

A Facebook post from Visit New Castle notes that after police killed the bear, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) officers responded to the scene and found three bear cubs.

Wildlife officers euthanized one of the cubs while the other two ran up a tree. As of Wednesday morning, officers were attempting to remove the remaining cubs from the tree so they could relocate them.

"We are deeply saddened by this incident and our hearts go out to the citizen that was attacked, as well as the bears involved," said NCCPD in the release.

The release did not provide any information about how the bear attack occurred.

CPW has not yet commented on the incident; however, the agency did issue a warning that bears are now preparing for hibernation, meaning the animals are more likely to seek out humans for food.
