People across the country are experiencing burnout at their jobs, which is definitely not a good thing.

According to Gallup via CNBC, we are living in a time where more people than ever are dissatisfied with their jobs. 50% of people report feeling stressed, while 41% of workers are worried about their jobs.

Even though Colorado has been reported as one of the most stress-free work environments in the country, burnout is still an element of many people’s work experience here.

Recently, SoftwareConnect.com conducted a study where they surveyed 3,000 adults to predict when each state will burn out. Even in Colorado’s supposedly stress-free environment, that date is coming sooner than you think.

Colorado Workers Are Predicted to Burnout on July 10th, 2024

Get ready, because you might start to feel burnt out at work as soon as July 10th rolls around. That is just 192 days into the year.

Fortunately, the average national burnout day (which should be a new holiday) is likely to be July 1st, 2024, so that means on average Colorado workers experience burnout later.

However, depending on your profession, you may burn out sooner than others. Lawyers in Colorado are predicted to feel it faster than any other profession, and they are predicted to burn out by June 10th. On the other hand, people in Colorado’s energy sector are predicted to burn out the latest.

While Colorado’s burnout date isn’t great, at least we’re not Delaware. People there are predicted to start feeling work fatigue as soon as March 19th, 2024.

What Are the Signs of Workplace Burnout?

According to BetterUp, there are three different types of job burnout: overload, under-challenged, and neglect.

Overload burnout is essentially the classic burnout scenario. Its warning signs are usually synonymous with getting excess work that gets in the way of personal and out-of-office desires.

Next up is under-challenged burnout, which is honestly the exact opposite. People can get burnt out at work if their job is too easy. While some may strive for an easy career, a lack of engagement at work can lead people to feel majorly burned out.

Finally, neglect burnout is when people feel like nothing they do in their workplace makes any difference at all. In these cases, they may be overloaded like in the first example, but are not shown in any way how this work helps their workplace.

According to BetterUp, other signs to look for in workplace burnout are:

  1. The feeling you constantly need to prove yourself
  2. Neglecting your own needs
  3. Constantly working harder
  4. Not being able to admit there’s problems
  5. Odd behavioral changes
  6. Depression
  7. A sense of emptiness

According to VeryWellMind.com, there are also physical effects associated with burnout as well, including:

  1. High blood pressure
  2. Compromised immune system
  3. Insomnia
  4. Headaches
  5. Gastrointestinal issues

How Can I Fix Workplace Burnout?

According to Harvard Business Review, there are at least four steps you can take to alleviate workplace burnout.

First and foremost, you need to start prioritizing yourself more. This encompasses trying to get more sleep, eating a healthier diet, exercising, and not distancing yourself from positive personal connections and friendships.

However, the article notes that these alone may not alleviate burnout. Shifting your perspective is important, since the conditions in your workplace may not change. Finding ways to reshape how you perform your tasks can be vital for feeling less stressed.

It is also of the utmost importance to try to limit how much you interact with workplace stressors. For example, a major cause of stress for many people is seeing and responding to work emails during time off. Instead of sending that message, just wait until you are in the office. Having a work-life balance is crucial to getting rid of burnout.

Finally, seeking good relationships and connections within your place of work is vital to helping you feel less burnt out. Being able to not only talk to people who may be burning out to help you but also work through it together in a productive manner can greatly improve the situation.
