However, the U.S. State Department has made some changes to the process of renewing your passport which will undoubtedly ease the stress of international travel for Coloradans everywhere.

Renewing Your Passport is Now Easier for Colorado Residents

In case you're not familiar with the process of obtaining a passport to travel abroad, it typically consisted of a trip to the local post office for the forms, taking another trip to get your official passport photo taken, then putting it all in an envelope along with a check followed by another trip to the post office to send it out and wait to hear back.

However, the U.S. State Department has now made the majority of this process available to complete online.

Presently, the online process is only available to adults, but now adult citizens can choose the option to renew online as opposed to renewing by mail.

A beta version of this process was tested out back in June of 2024 and is now available to all Coloradans that have previously had a passport and are over the age of 18.

In addition, Colorado adults can now even take their own passport photo as long as it's against a white background, and the same "no smiling" and "no glasses" rules still apply.

It's estimated that renewing your passport in this manner takes roughly a third of the time compared to the old way, and now you can even pay extra to have your passport rushed to you as opposed to waiting the traditional six to eight weeks.
