April’s Click It, or Ticket campaign is the first one of the year, and it’s more than a reminder. It’s a targeted enforcement period with additional police on the roads specifically to watch for seat belt violations. You’ll see more traffic stops this week around Grand Junction and across Mesa County as part of this coordinated effort to increase the rate at which Coloradans buckle up. You may even be stopped so police can thank you for wearing your seatbelt.

Who Gets Pulled Over Might Surprise You

Across the Centennial State, adult seat belt violations are typically considered secondary (ticketed after being stopped for something else). Drivers under the age of 18 who are not properly buckled and child restraint violations are what police will focus on most. Teens and families in Grand Junction are more likely to be stopped during this crackdown if anyone isn’t properly buckled.
