Peanut Butter To Avoid In Colorado

The thirteen brands on 247WallSt.com's list of the worst peanut butter brands can be found here. If peanut butter is simply ground-up peanuts, how come some brands taste better than others? Why are some brands more nutritious than others?

The best kind of peanut butter is one without lots of additives and preservatives. Sugar, salt, and hydrogenated oils are added to peanut butter to improve flavor, texture, and shelf life. Ingredients like sugar can contribute to obesity. Extra salt can elevate your blood pressure, while hydrogenated oils can increase cholesterol. Keep going for a closer look at the top three worst brands sold right here in Grand Junction.

The three worst brands of peanut butter sold in Colorado, according to 247WallSt.com's list, include a brand I have in my cabinet at home right now. Critics of this brand take issue with the ingredients. It contains sugar, hydrogenated vegetable oil, salt, and molasses.

#2 Reeses Peanut Butter

Who would think peanut butter lovers would take issue with Reeses? The Hershey company adds ingredients such as sugar, hydrogenated vegetable oil, salt, peanut oil, monoglycerides, molasses, and cornstarch. While these ingredients add flavor, they bring down the nutritional value. Plus, this one costs nearly $3.50 for 18 ounces.

#1 Smuckers Goober Grape Peanut Butter

There was only one brand of peanut on 247WallSt.com's list that I fully agree with, and that is this one. Smuckers has offered Goober-style peanut butter since the late 1960s. My issue is that the jelly tastes awful. I can't even taste the peanut butter. Check out the questionable ingredients in this one: grape juice, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, dextrose, distilled monoglycerides, salt, pectin, citric acid, potassium sorbate (preservative), and sodium citrate. All those extras drive the price of this one up to $4,25 for 18 ounces.
