Assigned Seats Coming to Southwest Airlines

Investopedia.com reports that 80% of Southwest customers surveyed said they would prefer the airline to assign seats instead of the open boarding policy they have had for years. Shares at the airline rose 4% following the announcement Customers flying out of Montrose in 2025 can expect assigned seats and a new boarding method.

Expect Changes When Boarding Southwest

Flying Southwest meant you had to check in 24 hours before your flight for the best chance at boarding with Group A. The longer you waited to check in, the faster you became part of Group B, then Group C. The new changes also mean you won't be able to keep walking down the aisle till you find an open window seat. You'll have to sit in whatever seat is assigned to you like on most other airlines.

Southwest to Introduce Overnight Flights

Southwest also wants to become a 24-hour operation by offering overnight flights to a limited number of destinations beginning in February 2025. Southwest will offer premium seating with extra legroom in the months ahead as another way to increase revenue for the airline.
