It hasn't been around since the 1930s, and Coloradans are getting the chance to witness it in spring of 2024.

With the total solar eclipse coming on April 8, it won't really be affecting Colorado all that much; but another celestial event is happening that we can see. You don't even need a telescope or binoculars, if you don't have them.

What is the Comet Visible in Colorado Skies?

It's the 12P/Pons-Brooks comet; according to NPR, it was first discovered in the early 1800s by a French astronomer (Pons) and re-discovered by an American astronomer (Brooks) in the late 1800s.

Why is it Called the 'Devil Comet?'

The outbursts from the comet appear like "horns" around it, so they started to call it the "Devil Comet."

Where Can We Find the 'Devil Comet' in the Sky?

First thing is to find an area away from a lot of lights in the early evening; then, they say to look towards the Pieces constellation.

You May Not Need a Telescope or Binoculars

As the comet gets closer to the Sun, which it will be closest to on April 21, 2024, it will be easier to see with the naked eye.
