The Rocky Mountain Toy Train Show Rides Into Loveland With a Lot of Fun
Loveland has been hosting the Holiday version of the Rocky Mountain Train Show since 2016 at The Ranch. It's two days of Coloradans browsing, getting started with model trains, seeing great displays, and adding to your own model train setup. Kids of all ages love to check it out, right before the Christmas season officially steams into town.
Collecting toy trains and creating toy train displays goes back since trains were invented. What kid hasn't had at least one toy train track set up in their room or the family basement? Often times the love of trains and toy trains carries through a person's life and they're always "crafting" on their display(s.) My cousins' step father is an avid toy train collector; he'll talk for hours about them while showing you his own.
It's a treat the Rocky Mountain Train Show holds a little "pre" show in Loveland a few months prior to their big Spring event. In actuality, the Rocky Mountain division of Toy Train Collectors was the first to let in the public, in 1980. That must have been an event; I can see "Old Guard" collectors not wanting to let people in. All these years later, the shows bring in thousands of fans.

Attending the 2025 holiday version of the show, I saw a lot of parents/adults showing kids these toy train things for the first time (like I had done with my nephew in Denver years prior) and those helping kids get new things for their own model train displays. There were many booths of things to check out; and a little train track that toddlers could ride on.
