I was scrolling through Facebook when I saw maybe the coolest celebrity in Colorado story of 2025: Oprah flipping Winfrey.

When I was a kid, I remember coming home from 2nd grade and sitting down to watch her show with my mom.

Oprah’s Colorado Hike on Bear Creek Trail in Telluride

Winfrey made a trip to Telluride at the beginning of September for a hike with her goddaughter and other close friends and family.

The group hiked one of the most popular trails in the area, Bear Creak Trail. This 4.5 mile trek is on the easier side and can be completed in two and a half hours.

Hikers experience a 1,092 foot elevation gain over the course of the journey.

Oprah’s First Attempt at the Hike Back in 1992

In Winfrey's social media post, she shared that she has actually tried out this hike before. Back in 1992, she visited Colorado and attempted this very same trail.

"It took me half a day and felt impossible. I never even looked up and saw the view because I was only focused on one foot in front of the other and trying to breathe in the nearly ten thousand foot altitude," the television personality said on her Facebook post.

When she made the journey back in the '90s, Winfrey never made it to the waterfall.

This time around, after making some massive lifestyle changes she was not only able to see the falls, but she completed the entire trip in one hour and 48 minutes.
