A recent study by blog.supplyhouse.com revealed that 77% of homeowners said the energy bills cause financial stress during the heat. Shockingly, 15% of homeowners will choose to sleep in uncomfortable heat to save money and not run the AC at night. According to the survey, the average cost to keep your home cool this summer will be $221 a month. What is it people will give up to pay the bill, and if the air conditioner breaks, will homeowners get it fixed or let it stay broken?

During the heat of summer, there is a fear of what would happen if the air conditioner broke. It isn't cheap to fix, and 19% of homeowners are afraid of this happening because of the cost to fix it, and 1 in 10 say they have attempted to fix it themself. If the cost to run the AC were to get too expensive, 48% of homeowners say the first thing they would cut to pay the cost would be dining out. There are a few sacrifices you can make to cut the cost. 48% said they are running fans instead of the AC, 46% are raising the thermostat to a less comfortable temperature, and 38% are avoiding using their oven or heat-generating appliances. An astounding 65% of homeowners have already cut spending elsewhere to help with running the AC this summer.
